In Douglass essay he starts it off from his childhood.   He was just a young   hard worker when he first met his mistress.   She was a kind-hearted woman who was very   poor fish to teach him to read and write.   She was so eager that she wouldnt stand for anyone  simply herself to do it.   She was nicer then the average slave owner she gave them f   ood, cloths and and wasnt mean.   She had   precisely gotten as far as teaching him the alphabet when all of the sudden she changed her mind.   She became very mean and would lash out if she   sawing machine him with a newspaper.   She immediately stopped teaching him to read and write because she soon realized that knowledge is power and he was her slave.
